I am sure that most would have already heard of using an old fridge motor as the basis for a vacuum clamping setup. Well, I was looking around the net and came across THIS SITE which has very simple instructions for making just such a vacuum pump out of very cheap and easily obtained bits and pieces. It is pretty crude but looks to be quite functional.

You could always upgrade the hoses and fittings and maybe add an old LPG cylinder as a vacuum reservoir. But if your main need was a small lamination press or bridge clamping jig, you could easily go with this design as is.

Cheap and Simple....hey! that's what my wife calls me

Cheers all
